As the Executive Director of A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency, I would personally like to thank you for taking the time to inquire about the various ways to help get personally involved in helping those children, youth, and young adults currently in placement with A Coming of Age FFA. The thought of giving of your own time and resources to help others is truly a blessed thought. However, taking the time to actually follow through can be painstakingly difficult. Some of the ways in which to give to our children and youth in care and our organization will be explained below.

Become a Volunteer
Becoming a volunteer is a personally rewarding way to become actively involved in the lives of our organization and youth in care. In order to volunteer, a person will need to meet or talk with the Administrator of the organization first in order to best clarify and identify the manner, time, and availability that a person has. Furthermore, this discussion will also help to clarify for the person calling and the Administrator of the organization exactly what the “volunteer” hopes to do for our organization or youth and the expected outcome that the volunteer hopes to get out of their experience. Volunteers will have to undergo a background check, criminal history evaluation and other required documentation and personal checks that will be explained to them at the time of the phone call with the Administrator of the organization. For more information about volunteering, it is best to contact Mr. David McCoy at (951) 776-9223 or by emailing him at [email protected]. In the subject heading it is best to acknowledge “Volunteer.”
Hosting a Gift Drive or Fundraiser
Children in care have a lot of personal needs. One way to help address these needs is to build community support by hosting a gift drive or fundraiser at your place of employment, school, church or even in your neighborhood. For more information about this, please contact David McCoy by sending him an email at [email protected]. In the past, our organization have seen gift drives sponsored by others in which items needed by foster children were collected including blankets, toys, stuffed bags and gift cards in small dollar amounts ($10.00-$50.00) were collected to be given to children who were initially being placed into a foster home. We have also had individuals and companies host fundraisers through their current employers to help our foster youth and organization continue to provide needed services or programs that are being provided at this time.
Monetary Donations
At A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency, we strive to meet the needs of those children in placement with our agency. However, this does not mean that A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency does not need your help. Your donations not only help our organization in continuing to provide for the individual needs of each child in placement with our agency, but your donations also help our agency to continue to provide for program services and social activities that allow our youth to have experiences that so many foster youth never get to experience.
An unfortunate belief held by some is that foster family agencies receive huge amounts of money to care for these children. The truth is that funds are provided for basic care and housing, medical, dental and some therapeutic needs of our youth in care. However, there are no additional funding provided to provide social activities or maintain program costs such as parenting and anger management classes, or independent living preparatory classes sponsored by the organization. Donations also are used to support various “drives” (i.e. backpack, school supplies, shoe drives) that our agency sponsors as well throughout the year. Donations provided by the public allowed our agency to take roughly 80 youth and chaperones to Disneyland in 2015 and are greatly needed to continue to support the services that our agency provides to the youth in our care.
All donations can be made in the form of a one-time donation or a recurring gift. A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency will accept donations made online, via mail, or deposits made to our local Bank of America branch located at 351 E. Allesandro Blvd., Riverside, CA 92508.
